The Long Range Desert Group In The Aegean is a meticulously researched book that sheds light on this little-known but significant aspect of WWII. Based on extensive archival research and interviews with surviving veterans, the book provides a fascinating account of the LRDG's daring exploits behind enemy lines.
The LRDG was a unique unit, composed of men from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities. They were trained to operate in small teams, using captured vehicles and equipment to infiltrate enemy territory. Their missions were often highly dangerous, and they suffered heavy casualties.
In the Aegean Islands, the LRDG played a crucial role in gathering intelligence, disrupting enemy communications, and providing support to the Greek resistance. They also conducted daring raids on enemy targets, including airfields and fuel depots.
The LRDG's operations in the Aegean were a major success, and they contributed significantly to the Allied victory in WWII. However, their story has largely been forgotten, overshadowed by the more well-known exploits of other special forces units.
The Long Range Desert Group In The Aegean is a long overdue tribute to these forgotten heroes. It is a gripping account of courage, adventure, and sacrifice, and it is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of WWII.

Excerpt
In the spring of 1943, the LRDG was deployed to the Aegean Islands. Their mission was to support the Allied invasion of Europe by gathering intelligence, disrupting enemy communications, and providing support to the Greek resistance.
One of the LRDG's most daring operations in the Aegean was a raid on the island of Kos. The raid was led by Major John Hackett, who had previously commanded the LRDG in North Africa.
Hackett and his men landed on Kos at night, disguised as German soldiers. They then drove to the island's main airfield and destroyed several enemy aircraft. They also captured a number of prisoners and gathered valuable intelligence.
The raid on Kos was a major success, and it demonstrated the LRDG's ability to operate behind enemy lines and carry out daring missions.
