Book Description

This book examines the knowledge regimes of four advanced industrial democracies - the United States, France, Germany, and Denmark - and their impact on economic performance and social outcomes. Zysman argues that knowledge regimes are central to understanding the economic and social challenges facing advanced industrial democracies today. He shows how different regimes produce different patterns of innovation, growth, and inequality.

The book is based on a comparative analysis of four countries that have been at the forefront of the global knowledge economy. Zysman draws on extensive interviews with policymakers, business leaders, and academics to provide a rich and nuanced account of the different ways that knowledge is produced, disseminated, and used in each country.

Zysman's analysis reveals that there is no single "best" knowledge regime. The optimal regime depends on the specific historical, cultural, and institutional context of each country. However, he also identifies some common challenges that all advanced industrial democracies face, such as the need to balance economic growth with social equity and the need to adapt to the changing demands of the global economy.
