In his new book, "Fighter Pilot Life: From Thunderbolts to Thunderchiefs," author and retired Air Force colonel John L. Frisbee provides a firsthand account of what it was like to fly these legendary aircraft. Frisbee, a veteran of over 3,000飞行小时, including combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, offers a unique perspective on the challenges and rewards of being a fighter pilot.
The book begins with Frisbee's early days as a Thunderbolt pilot in the 339th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron. He describes the excitement of flying the P-47, a powerful and rugged aircraft that was feared by enemy pilots. Frisbee also provides detailed accounts of his combat experiences in Korea, where he flew escort missions for bombers and strafed enemy ground targets.
After the Korean War, Frisbee transitioned to the F-101 Voodoo, a supersonic interceptor that was one of the most advanced aircraft of its time. He flew the Voodoo in both the United States and Europe, and he participated in numerous training exercises and air shows.
"Fighter Pilot Life: From Thunderbolts to Thunderchiefs" is more than just a memoir.
